Link Building ~ the Holy Grail to High Search Engine Listings

Link building… the “Holy Grail” to high search engine listings?
Not sure I’d go as far and say that — but many seo Experts say it’s so.
I can say this though… whenever I have linked to a page on this blog from another using a certain technique, it always seems to rank higher.
But I do not subscribe to the “Holy Grail” line of thinking — sounds like hype to me, but it does work.
Take this phrase for example; (without quotes)
how to run my car on water
I am listed #2 in Googles results.
This one;
run my car with water
#1 in Google.
Or how about this one;
utility poster video
I’m #1 for that phrase in Google.
I could go on and on, give you my most profitable phrases that I rank for — but I’d be messing myself up by giving you those phrases.
Besides, the run my car on water phrase is a pretty good one.
None of the above have humongous searches — but they are respectable — and because I rank fairly decent, I make a few bucks.
So how did I do it?
I used some of that “Holy Grail” Linking those seo Experts talk about… and it was easy (and free).
Whenever I write a post… I first think of the words or phrases I want to rank well for in the search engines.
I write down the main phrase… then I write down three or four related phrases and use them though out the post (article).
Once I’ve finished with the post, I let the post sit — I don’t link to it from anywhere or basically do anything with it for a few days. No promo at all.
I want Google to find it here first — and Wordpress does a good job of that.
I used to check that Google has made the rounds… to much work — now I just wait a few days and then begin my linking campaign without checking.
What tools and services do I use?
For the most part, I use Clipmarks.
I use Clipmarks to clip relevant content — I then post that content to different satellite (child and grandchild) blogs that point back (link) to this blog using keyword rich anchor text — the same keywords I used in my post.
That’s it for the most part.
There’s a few extra things I do with the RSS Feeds, structuring of the satellite blogs, etc.
But Clipmarks is the key.
So jump on over to Clipmarks (it’s a free service) and take it for a spin.
It’s a great service that costs nothing.
If you want to cut your learning curve down a bit — (here’s the pitch), I have created a 40 page link building report on how I do it.

So how is this strategy working with your blog (andrewdaum.com)? Are you ranking high in search engines for some key phrases?

It’s worked pretty good for this domain and others I’ve used the methods on.
I’ll admit, I’ve never gone after the really tough broad phrases (i.e mortgage, refinance, marketing, etc)… but for the most part I’ve hit page one for the phrases I have gone after.
They are not extremely competitive phrases… but they get the job done.
As you know — it’s no ’silver bullet’, but for a free method that anyone can learn to use — not bad.

Sorry, I forgot to add: To anyone who is new to linkbuilding, be wary of the tempation to send tons and tons of links to your site overnight. This is immediately flagged by Google and you will get the screws put to you for doing so.

Is there anyway of having “tons and tons of links to your site overnight” except using black hat type like tnx.net kind of services?
This is a good idea to keep target keyword on title of the article and few occurrences on the paragraphs.

Definitely some good seo thoughts to consider.
As a matter of seo, are you familiar with Stompernet? Their group is highly regarded, and currently they have some seo training material out that you can get for FREE.
You can checkout my ‘affiliate link’ free post (I do have ads on the site, in general) at: http://www.nichedigging.com/2008/09/03/seo-training-opportunity/
